Book Review
Set in the 1880s, this story is full of mystery, humor and a bit or romance. I feel it will appeal most to women, but anyone interested in 1880s Arizona, silver mining, or the history of the Pinkerton’s would find it particularly interesting – especially if they have a good sense of humor.
Cover Review
The only negative thing I have to say about the front cover … is that if the heroine is meant to be as homely as described in the book … I definitely want to hire her to do my makeup. Though that is somewhat the point, since our heroine, Ellie Moore, is supposed to believably pull off being both an elderly busy body widow, and her young and winsome niece. Rather than the preceding tendency for many covers to feature headless bodies in period dress, this cover is rather the opposite. The entire cover is taken up by an extreme close up of the heroine. The jaunty slant of her hat, and beautiful auburn curls are a perfect match for our heroine’s disguise as the dazzling, Jessie Monroe.
The back cover gives us an even clearer picture of Jessie within her 1880s Arizona mining boom town surroundings. The cover artist has even managed to capture the setting of the full moon which ties greatly into a critical scene of the novel. Yet they have also kept the marketing copy clearly readable and maintained an interest-capturing back cover design that fits the novel well.
